RIGSDOM · Drilling rig rental on a day rate
Lease and day rateDrilling rig rental on a day rate
Every unit in the fleet can be taken on a day rate instead of purchased, with crew, camp and maintenance optional. For a short campaign, a lease avoids tying up capital in an asset you need for eighteen months.

When leasing makes more sense than buying
The arithmetic is usually straightforward. If the campaign is shorter than the payback period on the purchase, and you have no follow-on work confirmed, leasing costs less in total and carries none of the residual value risk.
Leasing also transfers the maintenance and certification burden. Under a crewed lease, recertification, NDT intervals, BOP testing and the preventive maintenance system remain with the owner. You are buying availability rather than an asset.
Buying wins when the work is long, repeated, or when you want the rig configured permanently to your own standard.
What a lease normally includes
Terms are set per contract, but the common structure is:
- Bare lease — the rig alone. You crew it, maintain it and carry the certification obligations.
- Crewed lease — rig plus drilling crew, with the owner holding maintenance and certification. Rated by operating day rate, standby rate and move rate.
- Full package — rig, crew, camp, catering and rig moves, which is what most operators take for remote desert work.
Mobilisation and demobilisation are quoted separately, because they depend entirely on distance, terrain and permits.
What we need to quote a rate
A realistic rate needs five things: the location, the expected duration, the well depth and type, whether H₂S is present, and whether you need crew and camp. With those, a rate can usually be back within a working day.
If the programme is not yet fixed, the engineering suite on this site will prepare a drilling programme and rig requirement from your well data, which then gives us both something concrete to price against.

Common questions
Are the rigs available for lease as well as purchase?
Yes. Every listed unit is available both ways — bought outright, or taken on a day rate with crew and camp optional.
What is the minimum lease duration?
It depends on the unit and the location, since mobilisation cost is a fixed charge spread across the term. Short campaigns are workable where the move is short.
Who maintains the rig during a lease?
Under a crewed lease, maintenance, certification, NDT and BOP testing remain with RIGSDOM. Under a bare lease those obligations pass to the lessee and are defined in the contract.
